New Good Ol’ Days: Larsen Rink’s Rejuvenation is a Treasure

The stands were filled and fans filled the spaces surrounding the skating rink three-deep last Saturday evening for the doubleheader hockey game featuring the Winthrop girls and boys hockey teams.

Thanks to the superb facelift for Larsen Rink at the Mike Eruzione Hockey Center, Larsen once again is a first-rate hockey facility where fans of all ages and families can enjoy a Winthrop High hockey game.

Both the boys and girls teams once again appear to be en route to superb seasons, which means that a seat at Larsen will be hot ticket in January and February. The huge crowds Saturday were reminiscent of the “good ol’ days” of Winthrop hockey which began in the 1970s with the state championship team. However, given the broad support for the current teams and the rejuvenation of Larsen, the Winthrop hockey scene once again has risen to pre-eminence as the best experience in schoolboy and youth hockey on the North Shore.
