Winthrop Police Arrest Man on Drug Charges

Police Chief Terence Delehanty is lauding four Winthrop Police detectives who played a major role in a drug bust at a Winthrop residence last Thursday.

WPD detectives Tim Callinan, Robert Jaworski, ad Judy Racow and Lt. Det. Brian Perrin joined State Police and Suffolk County narcotics units in the apprehension and arrest of a 32-year-old male who was allegedly conducting a drug operation in the third floor apartment at the home located on Winthrop Shore Drive.

The police conducted a month-long investigation into drug-dealing activities at the location. It was determined during the course of the investigation that heroin and other types of narcotics were being sold from the home and in the neighborhood.

A State Police Swat team was called in and utilized during a search of the home because information had come forth that there were firearms in the home. Winthrop Police made the arrest outside the home.

According to Det. Jaworski, a large amount of cocaine and heroin, in addition to drug paraphernalia, prescription pills, packaging materials, scales, razors, and U.S. currency, were found on a table inside the residence.

“Our detectives did an outstanding job working collaboratively with the State Police on this investigation,” said Delehanty. “I want to commend the detectives on doing excellent work in such a short time frame and bringing this person to justice.  Drugs in this community are a key issue for the police department. We remain committed to working with our state and other regional partners to eradicate the drug issue in Winthrop.”

The individual was charged with possession of Class A (heroin) with intent to distribute, possession of Class B (cocaine) with intent to distribute, possession of a handgun and possession of ammunition.

The individual was booked at the Winthrop Police Department and arraigned at East Boston District Court. He was held on $25,000 cash bail.
