Winthrop resident Gianna Famolare won top honors at the 16th annual Newton Country Day School Science Fair.
Famolare took Second Place for her project “You Can’t Stop the Beat: The Effectsof Music on Exercise.†Her classmates were her test subjects. The freshmen ran a timed 2-K course, and on each test run listened to fast music, slow music, or no music. Her hypothesis that a runner who listens to fast music will increase her speed was proven accurate. On March 12, Famolare represented Newton Country Day at the Region V Massachusetts State Science and Engineering Fair at Bridgewater State College.
