Ashley Jurovich and Christina Russo grabbed first places for the Winthrop High girls track team in the Lady Vikings’ season opening meet last week against Marblehead.
Jurovich captured the shotput with a toss of 26-3.75, while Russo sped to victory in the 55 meter dash in 7.8 seconds.
Also scoring points for Winthrop were Carly O’Keefe with a second place finish in the 30 in 50.9; Kaitlyn Hersey with a second in the two mile run in 13:54.5; Olivia Vener with a third place effort in the high jump with a leap of 4-2; Katie Cochrane with a third in the 55 meter hurdles in 10.1; and Amy Sena with a third in the 1000 in 3:51.9.
On the boys side, the lone point scorer was David Heidrut with a second place finish in the 300 in 42.1.
Just falling short of getting onto the scoresheet were Kevin Garcia, who took fourth place in the high jump with a leap of 4-11; Matt Terry with a fourth in the shotput with a toss of 33-1.5; Robert Pino with a fourth in the 55 meter hurdles in 11.0; Robert Diaz with a fourth in the 55 meter dash in 7.6; Justin Casilla with a fourth in the 300 in 46.9; Chris Batts with a fourth in the 600 in 1:46; and Pat Brogan with a fourth in the 1000 in 3:21.2
Also competing for Winthrop were shotputters Paul Correale, James Carroll, and Chris Miccihi; hurdler Trevor Heatherton; Tom Flaherty in the 300; and Damian Deobersav in the 55 dash.
The boys and girls teams met Swampscott this past Monday and will take on Revere next Tuesday during the vacation week.
