Successful Pony League season concludes with a thrilling Mets vs. Orioles title series

As another very successful Parks and Rec Pony League season wrapped up Saturday morning with the Mets vs the Orioles squaring off in the playoff finals. These two teams played each other for the 3rd time in 6 days. Beginning last Monday night with the pitching matchup of Dan Feeley for the Orioles and Joe Skoczylas for the Mets. This game turned out to be a well pitched game by both, with Dan Feeley beating the Mets with a 2-1, 10 strikeout gem, while Dylan Driscoll came through with the game winning hit in the 6th inning. With that victory, put the Orioles into the finals to play the winner of the A’s and the Mets.

On Thursday Night, Michael O’Neill of the Mets faced Paul Singarella and the regular season division champ A’s for the right to play the Orioles in the Finals. While Paul Singarella and his A’s teammates played well enough to win, Michael O’Neill was not to be denied a victory with a 15 strikeout performance, and very timely hitting from Jimmy Carrol , Mike Rich, Jordan Corbett/Frank and the rest of the Mets which came away with an 8-2 victory.

In this 2 game elimination format, the Orioles were 1 win from the Town Championship and the Mets needed 2 wins to become champs. Friday night, the Mets sent Ross Kratman to the hill vs Mike Passarro and the Orioles. The Mets came out on top to force a “winner take all” game on Saturday morning.

The pitching matchup was the same two pitchers who squared off in pitchers dual earlier in the week. Dan Feeley vs. Joe Skoczylas. On this day, both pitchers and teams would play their hearts out. Dan Feeley pitched 6 great innings and had 9 strikeouts., and Joe Skoczylas pitched 7 great innings with 13 strike outs. But this time, the Mets would come out on top along with the timely hitting and great defense of Robert Breshere, Ross Kratman and Jake McKinnon to go on and win the 2010 Winthrop Pony League Championship 5-4.

Congratulations to all of the 6 teams and their coaches who made this year and league such a great success. Also special thanks goes out to Sean Driscoll and Rudy Howard for running yet another great Parks and Rec program for out kids in Winthrop.
