Thank you, Paul – Paul Frazier served the town well as Board of Health director

In 1982, Paul Frazier was appointed as the director of the Winthrop Board of Health. For the past 28 years, he has been the man in charge of one of the most important, though often taken for granted, town departments. Paul has been a fixture in the Health Department office at Town Hall since that time, but has announced that he will be stepping down as director at the end of this month.

It’s not an easy job to visit a restaurant or a place of business and tell the owner that his or her establishment is in violation of a health code that must be remedied immediately. But Frazier never backed down from the difficult decisions that he had to make. He performed his duties with distinction and grace and always exercised good judgment while keeping the health and well-being of all residents in mind.

From flu shots to blood pressure clinics to the general dispensing of important health information and checking on the pollution levels at local beaches, Paul Frazier has been an effective and hardworking town department head. Most recently, he has been out front in a leadership role in the town’s preparedness for the challenges of dealing with the global swine flu epidemic.

Paul Frazier has lived in town his whole life and twice has been honored with election as the Exalted Ruler of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, an organization known for its commitment to community service. Frazier represented his outstanding family and himself well in his duties as the director of the Board of Health. Whoever is selected as his successor will have big shoes to fill.
