Lydia Edwards, state senator for the Third Suffolk District that includes East Boston, was promoted to the rank of Captain as a JAG Officer in the Massachusetts National Guard during an impressive ceremony May 8 at the State House in Boston.
With her proud mother, Retired U.S. Air Force Master Sergeant Bridgett Edwards sitting in the front row, Ms. Edwards took her oath for the esteemed position of leadership in the Massachusetts National Guard.
Ret. Sgt. Edwards joined U.S. Army World War II Veteran Marvin E. Gilmore Jr. and LTC Lou Scapicchio in the official pinning ceremony for Capt. Edwards.
In humble remarks that were also highlighted in the stately, commemorative booklet for the dignified event, Edwards said, “I am deeply honored to be promoted to the rank of Captain and to serve as a JAG Officer in the Massachusetts National Guard. Thank you to all who attended today’s ceremony and to everyone who has offered support, encouragement, guidance, and friendship along the way. Your presence makes this day even more meaningful.”
Rabbi Benjamin Flax, Chaplain in the Massachusetts National Guard, delivered the invocation and benediction during the program. Staff Judge Advocate Col. James Downey presented the welcoming remarks, offering his personal congratulations to his colleague in service to the country, Capt. Lydia Edwards.
