Police Department to Host Youth Academy

Special to the Transcript

The Winthrop Police Department will host its 8th annual Youth Police Academy from August 17-21, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

The academy is operated in hopes of fostering relationships between the Winthrop Police and youth in the community.

The academy will feature a variety of training situations, allowing participants a hands-on learning experience. Participants will have the chance to travel to places such as the Suffolk County Jail, Child Advocacy Center, Winthrop Police Station, and more.

There is no cost to attend. Only 20 kids will be selected for the academy; early application is encouraged. Applications will be accepted for youth going into 7th, 8th, or 9th grade in the Fall of 2026.

For more information, contact Deputy Chief Steve Rogers at srogers@winthropma.gov or Sergeant Samantha Ferrino at sferrino@winthropma.gov

The application can be completed by visiting the department’s website, or you can pick one up in the front lobby of the Winthrop Police Station.
