Paul Thomas Mulkerron

Paul Thomas Mulkerron passed away with courage on April 27th, 2026, surrounded by family. Paul was born at the Salvation Army Hospital in Boston on January 5, 1948. Most of his young life he was raised in Winthrop, by both his father, John H. Mulkerron and his mother Elizabeth G. (Cunning) Mulkerron. Paul, the youngest of three children, was known as a hard-worker throughout his life. He was also kind, generous, determined, compassionate and helpful. From a young age, Paul showed a mix of an insurmountable work ethic and an even bigger heart. As a boy Paul attended St. John’s Catholic School where he served as an altar boy and volunteered his time wherever he could for the Church. Always selfless and considerate, he also made a point to look out for his close family members, consistently the first to step in and help whenever needed.
Growing up, Paul kept a busy schedule, juggling working at the local pharmacy while serving as the Captain of the Winthrop High Tennis team, along with other school clubs and activities. He was an active member of the debate team where he was known as an ardent advocate for women’s rights and other liberal causes But as busy as Paul was, he always made time for family, chipping in to help to raise his young nieces and nephews, whom he loved. He was a great nurturing uncle and always great with kids.
While taking summer school French class, his life changed. He bumped into an old friend who would become the love of his life, best friend, and partner, Kathleen Anne Carr. The two had met casually years before as young kids while Kathleen’s family spenT summers at their home on Point Shirley. After the two met back up in summer school, they soon became inseparable. Paul would borrow his brother, Johnie’s Mustang to drive out to the Carr home in Natick and take Kathleen out on many dates.
After graduating from Winthrop High School, he attended Suffolk University, paying his own way with part-time jobs around Boston, delivering eggs and working for his brother. He eventually found a career in building and construction, going on to become a member of United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America (Local Union #218, Boston) before moving onto his own independent contracting company. In 1969 he joined the United States Military, serving stateside with the National Guard. Upon his return, Paul finished his Bachelor’s in Business Administration at Suffolk University at night while working construction during the day.
He and Kathleen settled in the Metrowest area where they married and raised their loving children, Tara and Mark, who Paul religiously doted on, never missing a soccer match, dance recital, or hockey game. Paul continued to work in real estate, eventually starting his own real estate valuation company while continuing to buy and sell properties on the side.
He was an avid golfer, having been a member of the Framingham Country Club and Winthrop Golf Club. He also played courses in Florida, Martha’s Vineyard, Palm Springs and up-and-down the east coast. Throughout their life, Paul and Kathleen traveled the world together, visiting The Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Venezuela, Mexico, Hawaii, Ireland, England as well as California to visit their son Mark. Paul had many friends at his properties in Seal Harbor Winthrop as well as Port St. Lucie Florida. Anyone you would ask about him would call him the “Best guy ever” who would do anything for you. He passed away less than six months after the love of his life, Kathleen Anne Mulkerron. The two are now together again, resting peacefully.
Paul is survived by his daughter, Tara, his son, Mark and partner, Maira, grandsons Jack and Patrick, sister, Mary, nieces: Patti, Debbie, Maura, Karen, Kathy, Bridget, Shelagh and Colleen; nephews: Sean, Bryan, Jamie and David; sisters-in-law Bridget and Annmarie, and brothers-in-law, Kevin, Chris, and Michael. He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen and brother, John.
Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, May 9, 2026 from 9 to 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Reception at the 1 Seal Harbor Rd., Winthrop in the Harbor Room immediately after.
