MVES Hosts Sweet Soiree at DeLeo Senior Center

Mystic Valley Elder Services held an event on Feb. 11 to commemorate five decades of partnership with the Town of Winthrop and its Council on Aging.

To mark its 50th anniversary this year, Mystic Valley has been presenting a special gathering in each of the 11 communities it serves. For Winthrop, it was a Valentine’s party at the DeLeo Senior Citizen Center.

Over a hundred people enjoyed an afternoon of music, dancing, raffles, giveaways and luncheon. MA Representative Jeffrey Rosario Turco addressed the guests on how the Legislature, Mystic Valley Elder Services and the Council on Aging all play a role in safeguarding supports for older adults and people with disabilities. Lisa Gurgone, CEO of Mystic Valley Elder Services, and Matthew Rodes, Council on Aging Director, discussed how the two organizations work together to provide services and resources to the community. Rodes is also a Mystic Valley Board member.

Mystic Valley Elder Services was founded in 1975 with a handful of staff and now serves over 20,000 people in 11 communities. The nonprofit provides in-home services in Winthrop like housekeeping support and meal delivery. Mystic Valley also has recurring programs at the senior center, such as Medicare counseling and technology support, and provides meal service for the center’s daily lunches.
