Terry Kelly of Redington Beach, Florida, passed away peacefully with family by his side on October 25, 2025 at the age of 57. Terry was the devoted husband of 26 years to Michelle (Leslie) Kelly.
Born and raised in Winthrop, he was the loving son of Alice (O’Shea) and the late George Kelly. Terry was a beloved brother and uncle to seven siblings and their children: Michael Kelly and Susan (Kaitlyn, Sean), Joyce Kelly and Rick Hens, Timothy Kelly (Joshua, Matthew, Samuel, Grace), Kathleen Kelly, Eileen Cullen and Mike (Elizabeth, Caroline, Andrew), his twin Christopher Kelly, Karen Dickinson and John (Julia, Kate, Claire). Terry was a cherished son-in-law to Joanne and her late husband, Charles Leslie, brother-in-law and uncle to Suzanne Murray and Donald (Alec, John, Noah, Caroline). Terry will also be fondly remembered by his Aunt Sally Kelly and many cousins and their families.
Terry received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics from UMass Boston and his Master’s degree in Finance from Suffolk University. He met Michelle while working together at BNY Mellon. Terry enjoyed working for over 20 years at Loring, Walcott and Coolidge in Boston and is remembered fondly by his friends and co-workers. He later retired from FIS in Atlanta.
Terry loved growing up in Winthrop — running around and playing with all the kids on Cottage Park Road, including his lifelong friend, Donny Cirelli. He loved the ocean and fishing and in later years, enjoyed bringing his dog. Tek to Yirrell Beach before swinging by to visit his mother and father. Terry loved being part of his large family and always enjoyed the family holidays and extended family reunions with both his and Michelle’s families.
Terry was an avid Boston sports fan. He appreciated and found joy in every championship won by Boston teams during this amazing time period in Boston sports’ history. For Terry, he passionately experienced the Boston sports’ highs … the Red Sox winning eight straight after being down 0-3 to the Yankees in 2004 and their lows…losing Tom Brady to Tampa Bay.
Terry completed the Boston Marathon four times. In 2013, shortly after crossing the finish line for the third time, the bombs detonated at the finish line. Although 2013 was to be his last marathon, Terry purposely returned to run it again in 2014 as there was no way he would let terrorists take away the joy and community of Marathon Monday in his beloved City of Boston.
Terry was fun and funny. His smile would light up a room and the sound of his laughter made those around him happy. He was kind-hearted, generous and loyal. Terry treated everyone with the same friendly, respectful, and humor-filled manner. Those of us lucky enough to be family or friends to Terry, will miss him greatly.
Funeral services have been held and Terry has been buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield, MA.
