Town Addressing Water Bill Concerns

Staff Report

The town’s water department, as well as the town manager’s office, has seen an increase in water and sewer bill complaints, according to Town Manager Tony Marino.

Marino said the town is working towards installing new meters and addressing several estimated water bills that are due to meter reader devices not communicating with the town’s billing software.

“We are investigating each complaint and will make adjustments as warranted,” Marinpop stated. “However, some of these increases have been attributed to water leaks in homes and irrigation systems, as well as an increase in the number of occupants in homes and apartments. Often, meter reader devices stop working due to work being performed on homes or apartments, wires being inadvertently cut, or simply due to normal wear and tear. This has caused homes to have estimated water bills for long periods of time.”

Marino said he has  been meeting with residents to review their water bills and make any necessary adjustments based upon how long the water bill has been estimated for to reflect prior years’ water rates to reduce the amount owed.

“We also offer payment plans to our residents, allowing them time to get caught up once their water usage is accurately documented,” Marino stated. “If you have a concern with your water bill, please contact the Town Manager’s office at (617) 846-1077 to schedule a time to discuss your concerns.”
