We’d like to offer our congratulations to coach Phil Ronan, captain Noah Bayersdorfer, and the entire Winthrop High boys soccer team, upon earning the first-ever Northeastern Conference South (Lynch) Division title in the history of the WHS boys soccer program with a 1-1 tie against a strong Marblehead squad (which is ranked 17th in Division 2) this past Monday evening at Robert DeFelice Stadium.
Coach Ronan and his gritty crew finished their championship season with a run of 5-0-1 (which included victories over three of their NEC South Division rivals) to bring them even with Swampscott for a share of the NEC South crown with identical 7-4-2 records.
The Vikings’ late surge enabled them to achieve two additional milestones for the program, the best-ever record (10-4-4) and best-ever winning percentage.
Winthrop also qualified for the post-season MIAA Division 3 state tournament. We know we join with all of their fans in wishing Ronan and his Viking crew good luck as they embark on their Journey to the Tourney.
