Grace Kingsbery announcesrun for Library Trustee

Special to the Transcript

I am running for Library Trustee because I love our library and I love Winthrop. I grew up moving around our country and the world as a member of a military family, but Winthrop has truly become my home. Nine years ago, I moved here with my husband Austin, and we are thrilled to be raising our family here. We have two young children in WPS, and we come to the library multiple times each week to check out books, see friends, and participate in programming. The library has played an enormous role in teaching my children how to read, and the staff and fellow patrons have shared a warm and welcoming sense of community with us.

In my professional life, I am an educator. I have taught in a variety of school settings, and I have also spent time at DESE. In my current role as a public school math teacher, I use library resources to connect classroom content with the world outside the school walls. I regularly show my students the practical applications of mathematics in architecture, art, history, politics, sports, and more – all through library materials.

This is my first time seeking elected office, and my motivation is to directly give back to the Town that I love. I want to serve as a library trustee so that I can support an institution that is so important to my family and my community. I believe our library is an essential element of our social infrastructure and that it has the power to change lives for the better. I ask for your vote.”
