This year’s film is the 1975 summer blockbuster JAWS, directed by Steven Spielberg and filmed on Martha’s Vineyard which was transformed into the seaside town of Amity. The film set the standard for terror, as millions of adults and children were afraid to go swimming in the ocean and developed a life-long fear of sharks.  From the first notes, John Williams’s score is a classic work, recognizable by moviegoers everywhere.  The film JAWS became a cultural phenomenon that some residents of Winthrop have seen many, many times!

In the film, the Town of Amity’s Chief of Police (Roy Schneider), a marine biologist (Richard Dreyfuss) and a local shark hunter (Robert Shaw) join forces to hunt down a huge Great White Shark before he attacks again.
