Special to the Transcript
With a great deal of support and encouragement from neighbors, friends, family and many fellow Winthrop residents – I have decided to seek election to the At Large Winthrop Town Council seat. It is with great humility that I ask for your support and vote as I seek to serve my community.
I have decided to run because I see that Winthrop is a town with so much charm, unique character, and possibility. We are a town that is at a time in it’s history where we have more needs than resources and more grudges than good ideas. As a solution focused problem solver, without a party affiliation or partisan axe to grind, I want to be part of the answer to those needs. I want to focus on our beautiful hometown to prepare us to receive opportunities and protect us from impacts that loom on the not-so-distant horizon.
Raised in East Boston and Chelsea with my 5 siblings, educated in the public schools and engaging in community initiatives from a very young age – I have always identified opportunities to add value while supporting and protecting the quality of life for my family, friends and neighbors.
I bring nearly four decades of experience in global technology, finance, healthcare and construction and I currently work in project management and compliance with a very strong focus on community engagement. Whatever the vocation, I have always sought employment in environments where I believe in the work and am able to add the most value to the individuals, industries and communities with which I am engaging.
Whether it be volunteering with young families and veterans the development and advancement of lighthearted community galvanizing initiatives or spearheading local and statewide campaigns of consequential precedent setting importance – I have always shown up and been successful as a result of doing what others have not been willing to do.
As a first generation American and latch key kid who started my own family at a young age, I recognize the value of ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to live, work, raise a family and be successful in a community where they feel safe – whatever that means to them.
As someone whose grandparents hailed from the greatest generation, I have the utmost respect for our veterans of yesterday and today. Those same grandparents who toiled in the factories and mills, earning piece work rates and taking on 2 and 3 jobs ainterests ande providing in every way for their family – gave me my affection for every single working person who have literally built and continue to sustain our nation by the sweat of their brow and relentless determination.
As someone who believes it truly takes a collaborative mind set to advance the best interests and address the needs of a community – I get involved.
I serve on the Citizens Advisory Commission on Climate, because I believe it is my responsibility to contribute to Winthrop’s wellbeing. As a solution focused problem solver, I believe that there is an attainable path to resilience and security for our coastal community.
I serve on the Winthrop Commission for Diversity Inclusion and Community relations – because I know that when our neighbors feel seen, heard, welcome, safe and secure – we all do.
I love Winthrop. It is a town full of beauty and possibility. I love it for its coastal charm and resilience. I love it for it’s diversity and accessibility. I love Winthrop for all the things that it is and can be.
We are still very early on in this election season, and I hope to meet as many residents as possible as I am out and about in the community. I want to learn about you, your goals and needs and vision for our beautiful town. I will endeavor to earn your support and trust.
I’ll likely only make one campaign promise along the way – that is to make sure that I am available, accessible and that every time I engage on behalf of council business, I will do so with the singular goal of representing each and every constituent to the best of my ability.
Thank you for reading. I look forward to seeing you and earning your support. To learn more, please join me for my campaign kickoff event on Wednesday, September 17 from 6:00 – 8:30 PM at Bespoke Events, Michael’s Mall, Winthrop Mass. Also visit my web page at CelesteforWinthrop.org.
