Town Manager Anthony Marino and Health Director Meredith Hurley are pleased to report that the Winthrop Department of Public Health is teaming up with Recovery on the Harbor to organize the fourth Annual Adopt-A-Pole event to raise awareness of overdoses.
During the event, purple ribbons bearing the names of those lost to overdose will be displayed on poles throughout the community to honor their lives, to raise overdose awareness and to recognize National Recovery Month in September. The ribbons will remain on the poles throughout the month.
Winthrop joins Charlestown, Chelsea, Lynn, East Boston, South Boston, Malden, Roxbury and Revere in participating in the Fourth Annual Adopt-A-Pole event. Recovery on the Harbor, based in East Boston, is helping to organize the event.
“So many lives have been lost to substance use disorder and overdoses, and we want to remember the names and lives of those lost to help build awareness and compassion in our community,” said Director Hurley. “I encourage anyone who has lost a loved one to this disease to reach out to us so we can honor them in August and September.
