The Winthrop Sun-Transcript has learned that John Domenico, a beloved Winthrop resident and the popular former principal of Winthrop High School, passed away on Tuesday, July 1 at the Northern Lights Maine Medical Center.

Town Council President Jim Letterie said of Mr. Domenico, the highly respected educator and administrator who was well known for his love of tennis and could often be seen playing at the McLean Tennis Courts, “I was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Mr. Domenico. He was a kind and gentle man who gave so much to the Winthrop community, particularly to the Winthrop Public Schools. His contributions left a lasting impact, and he touched the lives of many. May he rest in peace.”

A gathering to celebrate Mr. Domenico’s life is being planned for later this summer.
