Little one’s cheeks were sticky with whipped cream from heaping spoonfuls of strawberry shortcake during the Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association’s (WIHA) 111th Strawberry Festival at the Deane Winthrop House on June 14.

“So much went into making this event happen. We had many volunteers to help out, and we’ve had fabulous support from the community, making this a huge success,” exclaimed Michael Herbert, WIHA President, who commended First Vice President, Lawrence Bailey, for his dedication as the Strawberry Festival Chairman. “The long-standing Winthrop tradition is something that I’m so grateful to be a part of.”

The annual Strawberry Festival is WIHA’s largest fundraiser of the year, featuring tours of the historic, 1637 home. Refreshments – such as strawberry daiquiris —  were provided by local businesses, and live musical performances and lawn games entertained families.

“The skies cleared up, and the music was uplifting — but the best part was seeing the community come together, socializing,” said Herbet, whose heart was full with gratefulness from the support of participants. “The house tours were definitely a big draw, as it’s a unique American icon that allows us to step back in time.”
