MBTA gears up for South Boston’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade celebration

The MBTA is gearing up for South Boston’s annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade on March 16, 2025, anticipating nearly a million attendees. To manage the influx of riders, the MBTA will implement special service measures, including free shuttle buses from South Station to South Boston, enhanced Red Line service, and additional Commuter Rail cars. Several bus routes will be detoured, and riders are encouraged to purchase $10 weekend Commuter Rail passes in advance.

Safety is a top priority, with increased MBTA Transit Police presence and strategic positioning of personnel to manage crowds. Riders are urged to celebrate responsibly, refrain from alcohol consumption and unruly behavior on the MBTA, secure personal belongings, and report suspicious activity. Bikes will not be allowed on the MBTA during the parade. The MBTA encourages riders to use their See Say App to discreetly report concerns.

The MBTA is emphasizing the importance of respecting public spaces and avoiding vandalism or disorderly conduct, which can create safety hazards and divert resources. They urge riders to follow staff instructions and seek medical attention when needed. The MBTA leadership, including Transportation Secretary Monica Tibbits-Nutt and General Manager Phillip Eng, highlight the commitment to ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all.

For detailed service information and safety tips, riders can visit mbta.com/StPatricksDay or follow the MBTA on social media. The MBTA, in collaboration with Keolis Commuter Services, aims to provide reliable and efficient transportation for all parade attendees, encouraging everyone to leave their cars at home and utilize public transit.
