After near-misses for the league’s Most Valuable Player Award, Winthrop High senior captain Talia Martucci has knocked down the door for the Vikings.
Martucci was the near-unanimous pick of the coaches for the league’s top award in the 2024-25 season. In the previous seasons, Emma Holmes, Summer Tallent, and Talia Martucci herself were top-tier candidates, with Holmes’ prolific campaign taking place during an undefeated regular season for the Vikings.
But this season the coaches rewarded Martucci for not only a 40-point year (19 goals, 21 assists), but an awesome hockey career, finishing with 64 goals and 75 assists for 139 points. The 75 assists are an all-time record in the program.
Martucci, who has committed to Salem State University, will leave the program as one of its most outstanding players and a certain Winthrop Hall of Fame in the future. Despite receiving extra attention by opponents all season, Martucci consistently delivered goals and assists, but more importantly to her, I’m sure, she and fellow captain Amelia Spencer, led the Vikings to a league championship.
Martucci should be a leading candidate for All-Scholastic recognition as well.
Spencer was selected All-Conference
“Amelia has been one of the better defenders for the last years, so it was nice seeing her get the nod,” said Coach Martucci.
Junior goaltender Riley Towse and junior defensemen Avalina Coffey and Tegan Pereira were selected Northeast League All-Stars.
Towse had 14 wins, 7 shutouts, and a sensational 1.21 goals against average.
