William Zedalis
Brilliant Scientist, talented craftsman, very artistic and avid outdoorsman
William E. Zedalis, 49, of Fitchburg passed away on January 23 at the North Shore Medical Center, Salem.
William was born and raised in Winthrop, the son of George E. and Estelle M. (Woytaszek) Zedalis. He was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1993 and furthered his education at U Massachusetts Lowell earning his Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry. For several years he was employed at Alnylam Pharmaceutical Company in Cambridge as a Research Biochemist.
William was not only a brilliant scientist but he was also very artistic and an avid outdoorsman. A talented craftsman he was a Blacksmith and leather artisan creating leather sheaths for knives. He loved music; he played the guitar and actually made guitars. As the outdoorsman, he went mountain biking, fishing, and boating.
A devoted father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, William is survived by his two children; Ilias O. Zedalis and Olivia E. Zedalis, both of Leominster, his parents, George E. and Estelle M. Zedalis, of Tuftonboro, NH, a brother, Michael G. Zedalis, and his partner, Alicia Vieira, of Mason, NH, two sisters, Lorraine “Lori” Care of Haverhill and Karen L. Blumsack and her husband, Peter of Amesbury, aunt Christine Zedalis, of Tuftonboro, NH, nephews: David, Jacob and Benjamin Blumsack and Nathaniel Care and niece, Elisha Care and cousins: Joseph, Jeffrey and Gregory Zedalis and Nicole Signoretti and Nicholas Woytaszek. He was predeceased by his grandparents: Adolph and Anna May Zedalis and Henry and Priscilla Woytaszek and uncles, Dale and Henry Woytaszekas well as uncle Adolph (Joe) Zedalis.
Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 8, from 1 until 3 p.m. followed by a funeral home chapel service at 3 p.m. at the Kevin B. Rosalie Stern
Of Winthrop
Mrs. Rosalie Stern died peacefully at the age of 101 in her home on January 17, 2025. Born on August 15, 1923, she was raised in East Boston. From 1954 to 1976, she and her husband, Jacob (Jack) raised their family in Winthrop. Rosalie and Jack retired to West Palm Beach, Florida in 1976. Rosalie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She embraced life with a passion for sharing meals with her family, reading, writing, listening to music and dancing. Her sweet personality and matching smile endeared her to everyone she met. She was well known for her giving nature. She was active in her community, volunteering at the Veterans Hospital of Palm Beach and raising funds for several organizations including the Cancer Foundation and Hadassah. Mrs. Stern is survived by her children, Marcie Stern Plummer and Michael Stern; her grandchildren, Denelle Shemesh, Jessica Plummer, and Joshua McHugh and her greatgrandchildren, Asha and Jaden McHugh and Shilee Shemesh. The family especially thanks Marie Mezidor, Rosalie’s devoted caregiver, for her years of love, care, and companionship. Rosalie was interred at The Star of David Cemetery of the Palm Beaches in West Palm Beach, Florida, with her late husband, Jack Stern, daughter, Evelyn Stern, and daughter-in-law, Susan Stern. May Rosalie rest in peace.
