Winthrop Farmers Market: A Community Hub of Support and Sustainability

Special to the Transcript

As the vibrant heart of our community, the Winthrop Farmers Market (WFM) has made significant strides in promoting local agriculture, supporting our neighbors, and fostering a commitment to sustainability. This beloved market not only provides fresh produce and local goods but also plays a vital role in giving back to the community

Over the past seasons, WFM has successfully donated a substantial portion of its proceeds to various organizations within Winthrop, including Mi Amore, which supports families in need, and The Winthrop Food Pantry, ensuring that no one in our town goes hungry. These contributions reflect the market’s dedication to uplifting our community and addressing food security issues.

In addition to its charitable efforts, the Winthrop Farmers Market is proud to support education through its annual high school scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to graduating seniors who have demonstrated a commitment to environmental pursuits, sustainability, and public health. By investing in our youth, WFM encourages the next generation to be mindful stewards of the earth and advocates for healthier communities.

This season, the market is expanding to take place every Sunday, offering even more opportunities for the community to engage with local vendors and enjoy fresh, seasonal products. The weekly market will be held at Ingleside Park, every Sunday from June 22 to September 14, from 9am-1pm. There will be no market on 8/31 (Labor Day Weekend).

As they look forward to another exciting season, the Winthrop Farmers Market is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to join their team. Whether you’re passionate about local food, community service, or simply want to meet new people, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved. Volunteers help with everything from setting up and breaking down the market to assisting vendors and engaging with customers. Your support is crucial in making each market day a success.

Together, we can continue to make the Winthrop Farmers Market a thriving space that nourishes our bodies, supports our neighbors, and promotes a sustainable future. WFM invites everyone in the community to come out, support local vendors, and experience the camaraderie that our market fosters. Let’s make this season the best one yet.
