Richard P. “Zip” Belcher

Avid golfer

 Richard P. Belcher, Jr. “Zip” of Winthrop passed away on December 18, 2024, at the age of 77, surrounded by his loving family.

The devoted husband of Isabel M. (Da Silva) Rogers-Belcher, he was the beloved son of the late Pearl (Rumson) and Richard P. Belcher Sr., loving father of Richard Belcher and his wife, Narcissa, Michael Belcher, Daniel Belcher and his wife, Sophia and his stepsons: Kevin, Eric and Mark Rogers; cherished grandfather of Tyler, Trever, Ariahna, Abigail, Alexzander, Dimitrios, DJ, and his step-grandchildren, Marisa, Alexa, Jake and Kylie and adored great-grandfather of Koen and Ramir and dear brother of Joy Furniss and her husband, Robert, David Belcher and his wife, Carol and Jeanie Scarpa and her husband, Frank. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and many other loving relatives and friends.

A Visitation was held on December 21, 2024, at St John’s Episcopal Church, 222 Bowdoin Street, in Winthrop followed by a funeral service. Interment was private.

Zip was a native of Winthrop, a town that he always considered home no matter where he was living.  He was an avid golfer and spent a lot of his time between Belmont, Hopkinton Sebago Lake, Maine and his winter get away at Greenacres, Florida.

Daniel Neil Fleming, Jr.

He leaves behind a legacy of honor, hard work, and a genuine love for the sea

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Daniel Neil Fleming, Jr., a life-long resident of Winthrop. Neil, as he was known to many, was born in Boston on February 23, 1942, and peacefully passed away in Peabody on December 10, 2024.

A proud graduate of The Rivers School, Neil continued his education at Maine Maritime, where he honed his skills and passion for engineering. He dedicated his service to the nation as a member of the Navy Reserve, achieving the rank of Lieutenant through his commitment and dedication.

Neil’s career as a Chief Engineer for the Merchant Marines was marked by excellence and expertise, leaving a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of working with him. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a cherished member of the Cottage Park Yacht Club, where he shared his love for the sea with friends and family.

Daniel Neil Fleming, Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering dedication, his remarkable achievements, and the warmth and kindness he extended to all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of honor, hard work, and a genuine love for the sea and sailing that will continue to inspire those he touched.

May his soul find peace at the eternal harbor, and may his memory be a beacon of light for those who mourn his loss. Rest in peace.

He was the beloved son of the late Dorothy R. (Corballis) and Daniel N. Fleming, Sr. He was the dear brother of Eleanor Nugent of Florida, Marjorie Donohoe of Virginia and the late Dorothy O’Neil. He is also survived by several loving nieces, nephews and family friend, Sheryl Coughlin.

Family and friends attended the visitation and funeral service at the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Friday, December 20. Services concluded with the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.

James J. “Jimmy” Slowey

Longtime member of Winthrop Elks

James J. “Jimmy” Slowey of Winthrop passed away peacefully on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, at 64 years of age.

He was a longtime member of the Winthrop Elks.

The devoted son of James P. Slowey and the late Barbara (Connolly) Slowey, he was the cherished father of Alexis B. Slowey of East Boston and Lynn, dear brother of Ann Marie Dixon of Chelsea, Barbara Ann “Barbie” Cashman and her husband, Dennis Paul Cashman of Port Charlotte, FL., and Donna Marie and her husband, Dennis Nesmith of Malden; adored uncle of Christopher G., Matthew J., and Michael J. Cashman. He is also survived by many loving aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Family and friends gathered on December 22nd at Ruggiero Family Memorial Home and a Mass was celebrated at St. John’s / St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Winthrop, on December 23rd.
