William G. Barry

He leaves us with sweet memories

 William G. Barry of Winthrop passed away peacefully December 1, 2024 at The Don Orion Home.

Born in 1938, Billy helped his father operate The Colonial Inn and later The Governor Winthrop Motel.

He attended the Don Bosco School and was a faithful member of the Holy Rosary Church.

He was the son of William H. Barry and his step mother, Leah Barry, loving brother of Fulton, Dan and Virginia and the late John. He also leaves many cousins.

He will be missed by everyone.

Richard Briana

Retired Executive Director of the Chelsea School System

Richard W. Briana of Winthrop, passed away in Winthrop on December 8, 2024.

He was born in Boston on November 9, 1930 to the late Mary (DeLuca) and Thomas Briana. Richard was a devoted son and a cherished resident of Winthrop since 1952.

After enlisting in the US Army and serving at the end of the Korean conflict, Richard pursued higher education at Boston University, where he obtained his master’s degree. His dedication to education led him to a fulfilling career in the Chelsea school system, where he served as the Executive Director.

Richard will be remembered for his unwavering commitment to his community and his passion for education. He touched the lives of many as a mentor, colleague and friend. His legacy of service and compassion will forever be cherished by those who knew him.

He was the devoted husband of the late Norma M. (DeStefano) and the loving father of Joanne Jackmauh and her husband, Paul of Winthrop, Richard W. Briana, Jr. and his partner, Renee Richards of Revere, Mark Briana and his companion, Wendy of Burlington and the late Stephanie Briana; dear brother of the late Thomas Briana, John Briana, Frank Briana, Theresa Trappasso and Catherine Merchant; cherished grandfather of Paul Anthony, Brittany, Rachel, Tayla and Richard, III and great grandfather of Alice.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop today, Thursday, December 12 at 10 a.m. Services will conclude with the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
