Cappuccio, Reardon, Noonan, Grein, Boncore, and Murphy elected captains

The Winthrop High School football team has yet to play a regular season game, but it’s already made history.
In an unprecedented happening, six seniors – Nick Cappuccio, Matt Reardon, Matt Noonan, Gabe Grein, Philip Boncore, and Will Murphy – have been elected captains of the 2024 team.
“I don’t think we’ve ever had six captains in our program’s history – it’s probably a record,” said head coach Jon Cadigan. “But that’s how the election went. It was close. I told each of them that they are captain-worthy. The election didn’t play out as I thought it would, but I’m happy with how the team voted and we’re going forward with it.”
Being a captain is a treasured honor in the program. Cadigan conducts a thorough selection process where candidates must apply for the positions.
Interestingly, Noonan and Murphy are first cousins. Will Murphy’s mother, Jennifer Noonan Murphy, is the sister of Matt Noonan’s father, former Winthrop High star quarterback Robert Noonan.
