Joyce Clarey
She lived a colorful life
Joyce A. Clarey was born on January 15, 1946 to the late Hazel and Angus MacDonald and was born, raised and spent most of her life residing in Winthrop before passing at home on July 8, 2024 surrounded by family. Joyce lived a colorful life! She started her professional career as a butcher for Quality Market in her hometown; soon after she became one of the best cocktail servers, then known as “bunnies,” at the Down One Saloon in the Logan Airport Hilton Hotel before establishing Hazel’s Housecleaners, which she owned and operated for years before retiring. Joyce’s true passion was devoting her entire life to loving and supporting her husband, Peter “lovey” and her “kids.”
She had a love for the arts, shopping, yoga and the beach which led to her travelling the world visiting every Caribbean Island in search of their next destination which is how she and Peter discovered Puerto Morelos, Mexico located in the Mayan Riviera. While residing there, Joyce spent her days being charitable in the local community schools, hospitals, yoga centers (especially Villa Shanti) and with children and families in need (so much so that she has a namesake in Puerto Morelos, Joycita!).
Joyce is survived by her loving husband, E. Peter Clarey of Winthrop; her siblings, Randall MacDonald of Sebastian, Florida, Carol and John Carver of Winthrop and Lois MacDonald of Stoneham; her nieces and nephews, who she always treated as her children: Richard Perilli of Washington State, Carla Palladino of North Reading, Kristen Perilli of Puerto Morelos, Mexico, Nikki Palladino of Lynnfield and Andrew Carver and James MacDonald of Winthrop and her great nieces, Talia and Ella Monteleone of North Reading and Angelina O’Hara of Lynnfield.
She was also the sister of the late Donald MacDonald, formerly of Winthrop. In honor of Joyce’s wishes, all services will be private. If you would like to make a donation in her honor, the family asks that you do so to One Mission www.onemission.org or St. Jude www.stjude.org to help these organizations care for those suffering from Cancer.
