Officials to Plant Trees In Honor of Victims of 2021 Incident

Town Manager Anthony Marino and Police Chief Terence Delehanty wish to share that the Town of Winthrop will plant trees in honor of the two victims of last summer’s shooting incident on the anniversary of the attack.

On Sunday, June 26, at 9 a.m., at 120 Shirley St., members of the community are invited to join town leaders in planting trees in remembrance of Winthrop residents Ramona Cooper and David Green.

The trees will be planted alongside plaques bearing the names of Cooper and Green.

“We hope members of the Winthrop community will come together to honor the memories of two of our neighbors, whose lives were lost due to a senseless act of violence,” Marino said.

“This incident is one that deeply impacted our whole community, and the resulting togetherness and show of solidarity in the days that followed was truly heartwarming,” Chief Delehanty said. “These trees will serve as a permanent, living remembrance of the two residents we lost that day.”

Resident Bob Carroll led the effort to raise funds for the trees and plaques.

Numerous community leaders will be in attendance and/or speak at the remembrance, including:

• Members of David Green’s family

• Suffolk Country District Attorney Kevin Hayden

• State Sen. Lydia Edwards

• State Rep. Jeff Turco

• Members of the Town Council

• Police Chief Delehanty

• Fire Chief Scott Wiley

• Town Manager Marino

• Local faith leaders

• The Winthrop Commission for Diversity, Inclusion and Community Relations

• The Winthrop Public Health Department

• State Police Col. Christopher Mason
