Congratulations, Lydia Edwards

We wish to offer our congratulations to Lydia Edwards, who handily won the Democratic nomination for State Senator in Tuesday’s special election.

Ms. Edwards, who currently is the District 1 City Councilor in Boston, received a strong show of support in Winthrop, defeating Revere School Committeeman Anthony D’Ambrosio by a vote of 1189-873.

Whether Edwards will be facing a Republican challenger in the final election remains to be seen — there was no formal GOP candidate on the ballot for the primary, but there may be one in the final election depending on the count of the write-in votes.

However,  it is all but certain that Lydia Edwards will be our new state senator when the results of the final election are tallied after the final election on January 11.

Ms. Edwards was endorsed by a host of prominent Winthrop residents, including present and past office-holders, who know that she will be a powerful, progressive, and courageous advocate on a wide range of issues that affect our community and region, from education to transportation to the environment.

We know we join with the majority of our fellow residents in looking forward to her service on behalf of the entire Winthrop community.
