Raising of the Flag Atop the Breakers

American Legion Post 146 hoisted a flag on the center breaker bar of Winthrop Beach on May 15. For 20 years, Post 146 — which has been in existence for over a century – has sponsored the flag raising as a tribute to the servicemen and women around the world who are protecting our freedom.

“The day after 9/11, the flag went up. It was a moving experience,” said Roseann Trionfi-Mazzuchelli, Director of Veterans’ Services. “It is important to remember and recognize those veterans who lost their lives on 9/11. It is with great honor and pride that we do this every year.”

An American flag, raised by American Legion Post 146 on May 15, can be seen on Winthrop Beach until mid-October.
Josh Lefebvre and Wyatt Hammerman, who enjoyed climbing the rocks, stand beside the flag atop the center breaker bar on Winthrop Beach.

If residents would like to receive an American flag to place at a loved one’s grave, please contact Roseann at her Town Hall office, at (617) 846-3065.
