Letter to the Editor

Thank you, WPS

Dear Editor,

As a group of engaged Winthrop community members, parents, educators, and allies, we wanted to publicly thank and commend the Winthrop Public School system for their work on a new Diversity, Equity and Inclusion resource guide. This expertly researched and wide-ranging website is an invaluable resource for teachers, staff, administrators, parents, and the community at large. It can be found at https://tinyurl.com/WPS-DEI

This document was created specifically to meet the current needs of the Winthrop community. Among other virtues, the website helps classroom teachers to have difficult conversations. It assists school administrators in finding needed resources for training staff, many of whom have asked for additional education. Parents and community members now have vetted resources they can use to learn and grow personally and to guide them in conversations with children, if they so choose.

This resource guide should also be understood in its totality, namely, as an academic resource that furthers the educational mission at large. We would ask that the Winthrop community recognize the good intentions and hours of labor that went into making a guide which is accessible to everyone, but not mandated for anyone. In the spirit of open inquiry, we hope the community will join us in thanking WPS for sharing this valuable resource.
