Police Blotter 02-18-2021

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded on the listed dates:

MONDAY, FEB. 1

1538: A resident came into the station to report that she was a victim of identity fraud. The officer filed a report.

TUESDAY, FEB. 2

0558: An officer provided assistance to a van that was disabled in the middle of the street on Upland Rd. Other motor vehicles, including a cruiser, also were stuck on the roadway, which was a sheet of ice.

1831: A resident came into the station to report having been the victim of a fake-check scam. The officer filed a report.

WEDNESDAY, FEB. 3

0201: Officers responded to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) at Shore Drive and Perkins Rd. in which a MV struck a street sign and ran into a fence on private property. The State Police also responded and brought the operator into custody for operating under the influence. The MV was towed and the DPW was notified of the damage.

1607: A resident came into the station to report that the driver’s side mirror of her motor vehicle (MV) had been damaged a week previously by a hit-and-run operator while her MV was parked at Cottage Park Rd. and Pleasant St. 

THURSDAY, FEB. 4

0449: An officer responded to a report of a couple arguing loudly both inside and outside of their residence on Shore Drive. The officer directed the couple to take it inside for the night and to keep it down.

0908: Officers responded to a report of a MVA near Cumberland Farms on Revere St. in which the MV ran into a utility pole. A female party and child were in the MV, but were unhurt, and an officer brought them to their home. The MV was towed and National Grid responded to the scene.

1419: A resident came into the station to report that a fraudulent claim for unemployment benefits had been filed using her identity. The officer filed a report.

1622: A Pleasant St. resident reported that he has video footage of a person who appeared to be trying to gain entry into his house earlier in the morning. The matter was referred to the detectives.

1701: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Pauline St. for the civil infraction of a stop sign violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1705: An officer stopped a MV without registration plates on Shirley St. The operator showed the officer his temporary plates and the officer directed the operator to place the temporary plate on the vehicle.

1955: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Shirley St. for the civil infraction of speeding. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2106: Officers responded to a report of a two-car MVA at Main and Pleasant Sts. One of the operators was transported to MGH and both vehicles were towed.

FRIDAY, FEB. 5

0908: A motor vehicle (MV) that had been parked in the 400 block of Winthrop St. was towed. The vehicle’s plates belonged to another vehicle and the vehicle was uninsured and unregistered.

1052: A business owner reported that a customer had been hostile, screaming obscenities at him. Although the officers were unable to locate the customer, a caller to the station reported that he was the customer, but did not leave his name.

1247: A resident came into the station to report that a fraudulent claim for unemployment benefits had been filed using her identity. The officer filed a report.

2005: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for the civil infraction of a red light violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2016: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Read Sts. for the civil infraction of defective equipment (tail light violation). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2035: A caller reported that a cat had been struck by a MV on Revere St. The Animal Control Officer responded and brought the injured cat to the animal hospital.

2151: An officer stopped a MV at Veterans Rd. and Shirley St. The operator was unaware that her driver’s license had expired and said she will take care of the issue.

2205: An officer dispersed persons in a motor vehicle from Hannaford Park, which is closed after dark.

SATURDAY, FEB. 6

0028: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil infraction of a red light violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

0045: An officer dispersed persons in a motor vehicle from Hannaford Park, which is closed after dark.

0935: An officer responded to a report of suspicious activity at Beacon St. and Hillside Ave. Officers arrested Patrick Banks, 32, of Boston, for the criminal offense of failing to register as a sex offender, subsequent offense.

1358: Officers responded to a report of a two-car MVA on Main St. There were no injuries and one MV was towed.

1457: A resident came to the station to report that fraudulent bank card charges had been made in her name. The officer filed a report.

1649: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked in the handicapped spot in the 400 block of Winthrop St.

1654: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil infraction of a tinted windshield violation. The officer issued a citation to the operator for that offense. In addition, the operator’s license was expired. The operator said he will take care of the license issue.

1831: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pleasant St. and Tileston Rd. for a civil infraction and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1954: An officer directed two persons to leave Hannaford Park, which was closed for the night.

2115: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Hermon Sts. for the civil infraction of a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

SUNDAY, FEB. 7

0127: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Main and Paine Sts. for the civil infraction of defective equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1307: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked on Floyd St in violation of the snow emergency parking ban.

1321: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked on Edgehill Rd. in violation of the snow emergency parking ban.

1337: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked on Beal St. in violation of the snow emergency parking ban.

1457: Officers directed that motor vehicles parked on Coral Ave., Tafts. Ave., and Edgehill Rd. be towed for snow emergency parking ban violations.

1504: A caller reported that her MV had been struck by a hit-and-run operator while parked on Upland Rd., causing extensive damage. The officer filed a report.

1511: An officer assisted a motorist whose MV was stuck in the snow at Quincy and Deane Aves.

1533: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Magee’s Corner for the civil infraction of unsafe operation because of the weather conditions. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

1540: Officers assisted three motorists whose vehicles were stuck in the snow on Revere St. 

1655: A tow was ordered for a MV that was involved in an accident at Revere St. and Highland Ave.

2050: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle parked on Harborview Ave. in violation of the snow emergency parking ban.

MONDAY, FEB. 8

0114: Officers responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident (MVA) in the 200 block of Pleasant St. in which a MV struck a parked vehicle. One MV was towed.
