Letters to the Editor

Supports DelVento

Dear Editor,

I’d like to submit my endorsement for state representative candidate Alicia DelVento to be published as a letter to the editor in this coming issue of the Winthrop Sun Transcript. Thank you!

“Alicia DelVento is consistently on the right side of the issues for me. Health care accessibility, public education funding, environmental sustainability efforts, LGBTQ and  rights advocacy, and so much more.

Her education and work experience prove she will be a dynamic and effective leader, and her character assures me that she will fight with integrity for our values.

I’ve seen Alicia’s commitment, compassion, and pride for this community which I take as a clear indication of her ability to represent us.”

Supports Turco

Dear Editor,

We slapped a band-aid on the education system in Massachusetts and left it there for far too long. The pandemic has assisted in exposing how deep the wound goes and how much work needs to go into fixing it. When it comes to our next State Representative, I believe Jeff Turco is the best candidate to stand up for educators and students alike.

For the amount of taxpayer money that goes into education, you’d think we’d have a little more to show for ourselves. Overall, the public school system is not able to accommodate the needs of today’s children. The scale is so clearly tipped, and that was more evident than ever during the scramble of at-home schooling. Some children had what looked like seamless transitions in comparison to those who had to make choices like being present for class or eating breakfast. When a good majority of our kids are having home life issues like food insecurity, the system should be there to assist, not to make things harder.

Education is arguably the most influential aspect of life, and shame on us for treating it any different. As a father of six, I trust that Jeff will always hold the future of our children with the utmost highest regard. Not all of our kids are “Type A” students, but that is the mold the school system tries to force them into. We need our public schools to have the resources to accommodate the needs of all of our students. Like many children, Jeff struggled with a learning disability as a child and found it hard for himself and his family to navigate. His one takeaway is the compassion of his teachers. Our teachers need to be properly equipped with the tools to help our children succeed and reach their full potential. I know Jeff Turco will be a strong advocate on Beacon Hill for all Winthrop and Revere residents. He will fight for opportunity, so I urge you to join me in voting for Jeff Turco, State Representative 19th Suffolk.Laura Lopez
