Winthrop Parents Network Serves Families During Quarantine

The Winthrop Parents Network (WPN) is doing their part to educate and provide resources for local families during these uncertain times. The network has been keeping tabs on family entertainment and they’ve made it their mission to ensure that parents stay in the loop on the latest stay-at-home activity options. In addition to providing links to free virtual tours of museums and aquariums and local resources for food, the WPN is delivering and picking up theme-based curriculum bags for families who are in need of something new to do. The bags offer young students an opportunity to engage in education in a fun and stimulating way.

“In these heart-wrenching times, it’s important to focus on the basics,” said Anita Preble, LMHC. â€œPatience, understanding, and compassion are the values we need to get us through. If you need help, ask for it. If you can give it to others, please do. This global event will define who we are as a community, a state, a nation, and a world. We will never be the same again. Hopefully, we’ll be better for having gone through this – a little kinder, and more connected emotionally to one another.”

The WPN newsletter which has recently shifted to digital format, arrives monthly with tips that align with quarantine living. From stress relief pointers for parents to tools on how to talk to children about COVID-19, the newsletter has been a regular resource for parents searching for answers.

The Winthrop Parents Network is funded through the Coordinated Family and Community Engagement Grant (CFCE), which originates from the Department of Early Education and Care. The primary purpose of the program is to promote early literacy, parenting education, developmental screenings, resources and referrals for families with children birth to age eight. This goal is achieved through collaboration with the public schools, private preschools, early intervention and other agencies that provide services to families.
