Kudos for Climate Change Forum

Dear Editor

The Winthrop Public Library staff deserves many kudos for the timely presentation on Wednesday night addressing the issue of climate change and how it is impacting our fragile peninsula that we call home. While many of the facts feel overwhelming, we were able to come away with a sense that much is being done to help mitigate the effects of the changes that are in motion now. Town Manager Austin Faison highlighted impressive steps that he is leading to help ensure that Winthrop can survive ..and not become an isolated island with rising sea levels.

One that stood out for me was the comprehensive green work done at Coughlin Park to restore the shore line to a natural barrier state- as opposed to outdated methods such as concrete walls to prevent flooding. Walking by that protected area and seeing the growth of a truly natural barrier..I’ve been so impressed by the foresight measures such as this reveal. Go visit this beautiful seaside gem of a pubic park and see the evidence of enlightened planning for yourself. You will be assured that the our town is in good hands when it comes to working With Nature, not against Nature, to preserve our town.
