Salvatore ‘Sammy’ Russo

Retired Boston Firefighter with a Lifelong Passion for Horses, Horseracing and the Boston Red Sox

Salvatore R. “Sammy” Russo of Winthrop, formerly of (Orient Heights) East Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving and devoted family on July 31.

Sammy was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and a retired member of the Boston Fire Department Local # 718, Orient Heights, East Boston. He had a lifelong passion for horses, horseracing and the Boston Red Sox.

He was the beloved husband of 52 years to the beautiful, warm hearted and devoted Patricia A. (Sullivan) Russo, who has been surrounded by her angels in heaven since July 1, 2011. He was the loving father of Ronald Russo who has been surrounded by his angels in heaven since Aug. 24, 2013, and the beloved father of his devoted daughter, Patricia Lio and her husband, Anthony and grandfather to his loving grandsons, Philip and Anthony Lio. He is also the loving father of Thomas Russo and loving grandfather to Thomas J. Russo and the beloved father of Kenneth Russo, who resided with him, and Salvatore  Russo and his wife, Andrea and loving grandfather to Amanda M. and Richard Ronald Russo and Amanda D. He was the dearest and close brother to Edward Russo of Oklahoma, Philip and Richard Russo, Josephine Diminico and Marie Giusti, and he is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were by the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, East Boston. Entombment was in Woodlawn Cemetery Mausoleum, Everett. In lieu of flowers, donations in Sammy’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice.

Loretta Andreottola

Of Revere

Loretta “June” (McCaffrey) Andreottola, of Revere, passed away at home on August 2 surrounded by her loving family at the age of 92.

She was the beloved wife of the late Michael “Tucker” Andreottola, devoted mother of Bobby Casella and his wife, Rose, Karen Andreottola, both of Revere and the late June McGrath; cherished grandmother of Bobby Casella, Amber Cunningham and Jenna, Mark, and Michael and adoring great grandmother of Elina and Jack Casella. She was the dear sister of Lorraine Padulla and her late husband, Frank and the late Claire, Eleanor, William, Howard, Paul, Audrey, Robert, Annette and Donald. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held at the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere today, Thursday, August 8 from 10 a.m. to noon, followed by a Prayer Service in the Funeral Home at noon. Relatives and friends are kindly invited. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Adele Ciampa

Retired Hskell’s Sportswear Accountant

Adele D. Ciampa of Washington Avenue, Winthrop passed away at home on July 30. She was 85 years old.

Born in East Boston, the beloved daughter of the late Anna (Simonelli) and Joseph “Lefty” Sponpinato, she resided in East Boston before moving to Winthrop more than 42 years ago. Prior to her retirement she was employed as an accountant for Haskell’s Sportswear where she also worked at times as a seamstress. She was a member of the Ladies Bowling League at Central Park Lanes in East Boston and played softball in the Women’s Softball League in East Boston. One of her favorite things was playing Scrabble with her family and friends.

She was the loving mother of Carol Ciampa and her husband, Hakim Jabrani of Winthrop, Jeanne Ciampa-Centrella of Groton and Joanna Ciampa of Winthrop; dear sister of the late Salvatore “Googie” Sponpinato and Phyllis “Chickie” Bavaro and cherished grandmother of Christopher and Nicholas. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

The funeral was conducted from the Caggiano’O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home on Tuesday, Aug. 6, followed by a Funeral Mass in the Immaculate Conception Church, Revere. Services concluded with interment in Woodlawn Cemetery, Everett.

Josephine Ferullo

Of Winthrop

Josephine “Anna” (Cammarata) Ferullo of Winthrop passed away on Aug. 3. 

Born in Boston on Aug. 18, 1941, to the late Anthony and Jennie Cammarata (Atria), she was the wife of the late John F. Ferullo; devoted mother of Cheryl Pasinato of Methuen, John J. Ferullo of Winthrop and Renee Pustizzi of Reading; cherished grandmother of Deanna Lemelin and her husband, Joseph, Marissa Pasinato, Liana Ferullo, Marc Ferullo, Matthew Pustizzi, Julia Pustizzi and Erika Pustizzi; dear sister of Francis Milano and her husband, Anthony of Medford and the late Joseph Cammarata and his surviving wife, Josephine, Frank Cammarata and his surviving wife, Madeline and John Cammarata and his surviving wife, Sandra.  She is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. 

Her Funeral will be held from the Paul Buonfiglio & Sons-Bruno Funeral Home, 128 Revere St., Revere today, Wednesday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a Prayer Service in the Funeral Home at 11 a.m.  Relatives and friends are kindly invited.  Interment will be at Winthrop Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New England Donor Services, 60 1st Ave, Waltham, MA 02451.  For guest book, please visit www.Buonfiglio.com.
