Winthrop Police Investigating Armed Robbery

Chief Terence M. Delehanty reports that the Winthrop Police Department is investigating an armed robbery that occurred last week.

Winthrop Police were dispatched to a home on Atlantic Street on a report of an armed robbery.

Upon arrival, officers learned that a 23-year-old male resident was getting dropped off by a friend when a vehicle approached him. Two males, one of whom was in possession of a firearm, got out of the car and demanded the victim hand over all the cash he had on his person.

The suspects, who were described as wearing dark clothing and baseball hats, then got back into their vehicle, which was operated by another male, and fled the scene.

“At this time we believe that the victim and suspects were known to each other and that this is not a random act,” Chief Delehanty said. “We do not believe there to be any danger to the community and we are continuing to actively investigate this incident with the hope of bringing it to a quick resolution.”

Residents with home video surveillance, or those who were in the Atlantic Street area early this morning, are asked to contact the Winthrop Police Department’s Detective Division at 617-846-1212. All tips can remain anonymous.
