Mary Alessi

Retired garment worker

Mary Alessi of Bellevue Ave., Winthrop passed away at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston on Feb. 21. She was 95 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved daughter of the late Jennie (Bonfiglio) and Gaetano Frizzi, she resided in East Boston before moving to Winthrop over 61 years ago. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a garment worker making sportswear.

She was the devoted wife of the late Carl Alessi and the loving mother of Linda Murray of Winthrop, Michael Alessi of Salem and Carl Alessi of Winthrop; dear sister of Gloria Capone of Winthrop, Guy Frizzi of Revere and the late Frank Antonucci, Sarno Antonucci, Mildred Antonucci and Angie Orlandino.

 The funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home on Wednesday, Feb. 27, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church. Services concluded with the entombment in the Woodlawn Mausoleum in Everett.

Elaine Eve Carey

Shared her heart with all those she touched

Elaine Eve (Bobricki) Carey passed away peacefully on Feb. 20 in the presence of the ones who love and cared for her. She was 84 years old.

She was born in Chelsea on Christmas Eve and was married to her high school sweetheart, John Francis Carey for 63 years. She was the cherished daughter of Irene and Joseph Bobricki; big sister to Joan, Robert, and Barbara.

Elaine spent her life sharing her heart with all of those she touched. An artistic soul, she was one who inspired others to follow her path. From her whirling polka to the waves dancing on the ocean she taught us to appreciate every minute we are given.

She is loved forever by her children John, Ken, Patrice, Steven, and Carole, as well as adored by her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

A Funeral Mass was conducted in the St. John the Evangelist Church on Saturday, Feb. 23. Fr. Charles Bourke celebrated the mass and offered prayers at the interment in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery. Janine Marie Petersen

Known for her one-liners and good sense of humor

Janine Marie Petersen, age 65, passed away peacefully, on Thursday, Feb. 21 in Cambridge Hospital in Cambridge, after lifelong challenges with mental illness.

A lifelong resident of Winthrop, Janine enjoyed the simple pleasures of life. Dinners out with friends and family, a ride up the beach or listening to the oldies were the things that brought her pleasure. She was known for her one-liners and her good sense of humor.

Janine was the devoted daughter of the late Joan S. Petersen and John W. Petersen. She is survived by her brother John Petersen and his wife, Holly of Lynn, her sister, Janice DiFiore and her husband, Joe of North Conway, N.H.., her brother, Joe Petersen of Stoneham, her late brother, James’ wife, Peggy Petersen of Tewksbury, her brother, Jeff Petersen and his wife, Shari, of Tempe, Ariz. and her brother, Jay Petersen and his wife, Janet of Cape Elizabeth Maine. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Her funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral home, Winthrop on Monday, Feb. 25 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church.  Fr. Peter Graziano celebrated the mass and offered prayers at the interment in the Cross street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
