Winthrop Dems to Host Candidates Night

On Tuesday, Aug. 28, from 7-9 p.m., the Winthrop Democratic Town Committee will host its annual summer reception at GoGo on the Ocean (561 Shirley St., Winthrop). There will be light refreshments, a cash bar, and the opportunity to meet and network with local Democrats, elected officials, and candidates on the ballot this upcoming election.

In order to cover the costs associated with hosting the event, a suggested $20 donation to the Winthrop Democratic Town Committee is requested and can be paid at the door.

This event is open to the public so please feel free to stop in!

 

COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE SEPT. 5

On Wednesday, Sept. 5, from 12:30  until 5:30 p.m. a blood drive will be held at Biggio Hall in the Elks Lodge.To schedule an appointment, please visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.

 

HALL OF FAME TICKETS AVAILABLE

The 2018 Winthrop High School Athletic Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony tickets are available.

The ceremony and dinner will be held on Saturday, Oct. 20, at Winthrop High and Middle School at 5:30 p.m. Tickets are $50

The tickets are available at the office of attorney Chris Tsiotos, 19 Winthrop Street or by calling (617) 846-9192.

Nine inductees, the 2006 Super Bowl champions and the 1984 State Championship team will be inducted.

 

WIHA Classic Car Show Saturday

The Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association (WIHA) is proud to host the Annual WIHA Classic Car Show on Saturday Aug. 25, 10-2 p.m. at Ingleside Park in Winthrop, Rain date is Sunday Aug. 26. The show, free to the public, is a fun community event appealing to all ages, with activities for kids, games, music, food, prizes, trophies, and raffles, pick the winners yourself for “Best Car Cruisin’ the Beach”, “Most Patriotic”, “Best Super Hero Car” and lots more fun categories. Registration for show cars opens at 8:30 a.m., $10 per vehicle, free lunch to first 25 drivers, vendor and artist spaces $25, corporate advertising sponsorships are also available. Proceeds from this fundraiser help WIHA preserve the 1637 historic Deane Winthrop House, the oldest continually occupied house in America!

WINTHROP COMMUNITY FOOD PANTRY

Winthrop Community Food Pantry has been operating for over 20 years and is housed in the Parish Hall of St. John’s Episcopal Church located at 222 Bowdoin St.

Hours of operation are 6:15 to 7:30 p.m. on the second Wednesday of every month, by appointment. Due to the expansion, fresh fruits and vegetables, season permitting are being offered. The Food Pantry is not an emergency pantry but a supplemental one. The goal is to basic staples like eggs, milk, margarine, bread and cheese. Also provided are canned vegetables, fruit, cereal, mac and cheese, tuna, spaghetti sauce and pasta. There are a variety of additional items, based on availability, that are offered as well.

The pantry helps those in need. Whether one has recently lost their job, or are on a fixed income, a single parent, any number of a family or just having trouble making ends meet, the pantry is there to help. WCAT looking for volunteers

Get involved with your public access TV station. WCAT is always looking for Winthrop residents of all ages to join our volunteer production team. Classes are free for teens 12-17 years old and just $50 for adults. Learn how to use our HD cameras, edit with Adobe Premiere Pro, and produce your own programs for WCAT Channel 3 and YouTube. Live stream the Winthrop Town Council meetings or School Committee meetings as they happen, from any device.
