Art show this weekend

The Winthrop Arts Association Spring Art Festival will be held Saturday, April 28 from noon -6 p.m. and Sunday, April 29 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. with a reception from 2-4 p.m. The festival will be held at the EB Newton School, 45 Pauline St. For more info contact Dawn at 617-846-2644.

 

Mammograms available

On Thursday, May 10, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dana Farber’s Mammography van will be in the Larsen Rink parking lot, 45 Pauline St., To schedule your mammogram contact the public health nurse Deanna Faretra at 617-846-1077 ext. 1061.

 

MBTA to Present Better Bus Project in Winthrop May 2

Representatives from the MBTA will attend next week’s Winthrop Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) meeting to present on the upcoming Better Bus Project which seeks to improve service and accessibility of all MBTA bus routes starting this summer. All are welcome to come and learn about this opportunity to improve the schedules & routes of the local 712 and 713 buses in Winthrop. The meeting will be held on Wednesday, May 2, at 7 p.m. in the Harvey Hearing Room at Town Hall. For more information, see https://www.mbta.com/projects/better-bus-project.

 

STREET SWEEPING STARTS NEXT WEEK

The Town of Winthrop conducts Street Sweeping operations on the last full week of the month (last week with a Friday) from April through October between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the day of                          a street’s trash collection.  If there is a holiday on the week sweeping would normally occur, sweeping is done a week early.

Town ordinance prohibits parking in a manner that impedes the street sweeper.  Violation of the street sweeping ordinance carries a $40.00 fine, and your vehicle can be towed.

The 2018 street sweeping dates are:

April (week of the 23)
May (week of the 21)
June (week of the 25)
July week of the 23
Aug. (week of the 27)
Sep. (week of the 24)
Oct. (week of the 22)

 

Precinct 4 meeting May 2

A Precinct 4 meeting will be held on May 2 at 6:30 p.m. at the EB Newton Center, 45 Pauline Street, Winthrop, MA. All residents of Precinct 4 are invited to attend.

 

NARFE CONVENTION TO BE HELD MAY 3 and 4

The North Shore Chapter of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) is hosting this year’s Massachusetts Federation Convention at the Devens Common Center in Devens on Thursday and Friday,  May 3-4. All NARFE members from the Massachusetts chapters are invited. Events include a Thursday presentation by the Deputy Director of the NARFE Benefits Institute, a banquet on Thursday night, and Friday talks by Massachusetts State Senator James B. Eldridge and a spokesperson for Congressional  Representative Seth Moulton. In addition, the results of the Federation officer elections will be announced.  Thursday evening banquet is $40. The Paul Speidel Jazz Trio will return for another concert on the lawn on Thursday, June 28.  They were terrific last year so we expect nothing less this year.  Bring a seat or blanket, perhaps a picnic, and enjoy the music!
