Chamber Dinner A Success

The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce $10,000 Dinner was held Saturday night at the Cottage Park Yacht Club and we congratulate Executive Director Betsy Shane, President Paul Leavy and the committee for making the event such a successful and enjoyable one. Master of ceremonies Ernie Hardy was outstanding in his role, reminding many of the great Bob Barker (of Truth or Consequences and The Price Is Right fame) for the smooth and efficient manner in which he guided the guests through the ticket-elimination phase of the drawing leading to the final 10 contestants. Hardy didn’t pressure any of the 10 finalists to “split the prize,” just adding some exciting commentary as the contestants were whittled down to four people – who ultimately split the $10,000 jackpot.

There is no question that there is an increasing level of excitement when the field is narrowed to ten and people pass up the chance to win $1,000 or $2,000 (five people) and then all of sudden the remaining four agreed to split the prize and take home $2,500. It was great to see the Biggio family at one of the tables supporting the Chamber of Commerce at its fundraiser and they seemed very happy to win a pair of Red Sox tickets. Councilors Heather Engman and Russell Sanford were in attendance as was School Committee member Tino Capobianco and Supt. of Schools John Macero and his wife, Trudy Macero.

The tenderloin dinner prepared by the Cottage Park Yacht Club staff was terrific and everyone seemed to be having a wonderful time.
