Councilor-at-Large Rick Boyajian announced his candidacy for Town Council President in this week’s Sun Transcript and we must say, after reading Rick’s paid political advertisement, he has thoroughly elaborated on the reasons he has decided to seek the town’s highest election position. Rick has been an effective town official since being elected to the Council and as he states in his announcement, he hopes to meet with residents during the campaign “share my vision, listen to yours and discuss practical solutions.
The election featuring Boyajian and current Council President Bob Driscoll Jr. should be an exciting one as both men are highly regarded and have represented well the residents of the town on the Council. There have been some exciting elections in the past. Former Town Council President Jeffrey Turco was elected to the position in impressive fashion and then faced well-known Winthrop resident Peter Gill in the ensuing election, with Gill winning a hotly contested race.
The position of town council president is a prestigious one and almost takes on the significance of being the “mayor” of Winthrop. We look forward to following the town council president’s election in the coming months.
