It’s become apparent within the past week that November’s local election could have some interesting contested races.

Board of Health Chairman Nick LoConte has taken out nomination papers to run for Councilor in Precinct 3. Incumbent Nicholas DelVento has not yet taken out nomination papers and there is some talk that he might not seek re-election.

Precinct 1 Councilor Paul Varone has taken out his nomination papers as has Precinct 5 incumbent Russ Sanford.

Revere Street resident Robert DeMarco has taken out nomination papers for the at-large council seat. That would pit him against incumbent At-large Councilor Rich Boyajian, who also has yet to take out papers.

Betty Peabody, Gillian Teixeira and Virginia Wallace are incumbents for Library Trustee and have taken out their nomination papers.

On the School Committee there are three up for re-election, Dawn Sullivan, Brian Perrin and William Holden.

Resident James Fabiano has taken out nomination papers for a seat on the School Committee.

On the Winthrop Housing Authority there are two seats up for re-election held by Lawrence Holmes and Peter Gill. Resident Fred Silk has taken out nomination papers to challenge them.

The last day to return nomination papers is Sept. 19. On Oct. 5 the lottery will be held for ballot position.

Last date to Register to vote in the Nov. 7 election is Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2017. The Town Clerk’s Office is Open 8 a.m. – 8 p.m.
