Letters to the Editor

THANK YOU FOR MAKING OUR CHRISTMAS

Dear Editor:

I want to express my extreme gratitude, appreciation, and thank you and all that contributed to the Christmas care package that I received in the mail. It is a great reminder of the amazing people that come from the small town I was fortunate enough to grow up in.  The hard work and dedication by you and all your helpers year in and year out really is something special. Your dedication and support of the men and women of the greatest military in the world is unbelievable, and truly top notch and I only wish that those of your generation got the same support and dedication that you give to those serving today.  Again, thank you and the Town of Winthrop for the care package, and thank you for your service to this great nation. Hope you have a Merry Christmas.

I’ve attached a picture for you to enjoy. The three aircraft that are on the left are painted in paint schemes of past Coast Guard Aircraft going back 100 years, and the three on the right are current day paint schemes.  The Coast Guard is celebrating our 100th anniversary of Coast Guard Aviation, and the 50th Anniversary of Aviation Training Center Mobile Alabama this year. This is where every Coast Guard aircrew is trained to complete the missions that we are responsible for. It really is amazing how far aviation has come in such a short amount of time. Take care and keep in touch.

MORE INFORMATION WAS NEEDED

Dear Mr Editor,

I just read the article on Santa Claus, I was a bit dismayed as to why more investigation wasn’t done prior to writing of this article by Ms. Anslinger. For instance as the person in charge of putting this entire ride together wasn’t mentioned, if it wasn’t for him for the past 30 years leading the crew that builds the entire sleigh platform, wires all the lights, wires all the sound, touches up all the paint. This begins weeks of preparation to get it ready for the few hours that it is seen by the public, him and his crews days don’t begin at 4:30 on Christmas Eve, it’s several weeks prior. Not to mention the ride through town several times to make sure the route is passable because of low hanging wires and low branches so Santa and the equipment is safe. As a member of this department for over 30 years and part of his crew of many years, as well as, he being the driver of the engine carrying Santa that his name wasn’t mentioned. He name is Dennis Boudrow and it is in my opinion that he deserves just as must credit as Charlie Flanagan being Santa. I think this article was written poorly, lacked any investigation and projected to the public as a one man show.

I’m just sayin,

Vincent Zappulla

READER SEEKS TO RAISE AWARENESS OF MS

Dear Editor:

My name is Alex Saunders, and I’m a Beacon Hill resident. This April, I’m going to be running the London Marathon with the MS-UK charity team.

I wanted to use this opportunity to tell you a bit about multiple sclerosis (MS). MS is a degenerative disease that affects over 2.3 million people worldwide. MS causes the loss of myelin in the central nervous system, which disrupts the ability of nerves to conduct electrical impulses to and from the brain.

The cause of MS is unknown, and the progression of the disease can be unpredictable. Folks with MS experience a wide range of symptoms, such as vision loss, tremors, trouble walking, slurred speech, memory loss, anxiety and mood swings, and more. Over 400,000 Americans are affected by MS, and about 20,000 people die from MS each year. MS is the most widespread disabling neurological condition of young adults in the world, and is typically diagnosed in people between the ages of 20 and 50.

There is no known cure for MS at this time, though medications can help slow the progression of the disease and manage symptoms. By supporting organizations like MS-UK, you can help researchers find a cure for MS.

MS-UK is a national charity dedicated to MS research and improving the lives of people with MS. I’m really excited to be a part of the team, and to be running my first marathon! If you would like to learn more about MS or MS-UK, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Additionally, I have a fundraising page on Virgin Money Giving, and would greatly appreciate donations. My page can be found at: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/AlexSaunders
