PERFORMANCE AT INGLESIDE PARK TONIGHT

Sean Driscoll, director of the Winthrop Parks and Recreation Department, has announced that the band, “The Originals,” will perform tonight (Thursday) at 7 at Ingleside Park.

The showing of the movie, “Remember the Titans,” will follow at 8:15 p.m.

SEVERAL EVENTS PLANNED FOR VETERANS

Purple Heart Day Dinner will be held at the Beachmont VFW Post 6712
 on August 7 from 3 – 7 pm

The dinner will be honoring local Purple Heart recipients. A Sunday Family Style Dinner with DJ and raffles will be served.

One can sponsor a Purple Heart Recipient at $20 each with a check made  payable  to VFW Post 6712 at 150 Bennington Street, Revere, MA 02151 Proceeds to Purple Heart Association of Massachusetts.

Please notify vfw if purple heart hero will attend as recipients are free.

Also the Post shall commemorate the Vietnam War Veteran’s 50th anniversary.  One can

Many have asked for US Veteran Flag Holders for deceased Veterans graves. Veteran Services expecting a small shipment in
soon. The cost is $15.00 each – check payable to Roseann Mazzuchelli as she pre- purchased them. She is not able to get the lower price if ordering according to the various services, hence ordering the US  Veteran one.

DCR PLANS ACTIVITIES

The following activities will be occurring through July 31.

Winthrop Beach

The construction trailers adjacent to the DCR bath house will be removed from the site.

Rumney Marsh, Saugus

Installation of plantings in salt marsh restoration Area D is ongoing. Installation of temporary monofilament “fencing,” to discourage geese from feeding, will be proceeding once planting is complete.

The environmental monitor will observe conditions of the slopes and erosion control devices.

A temporary construction trailer will be delivered to the Ballard Street parking lot. The trailer will remain at this location until Rumney Marsh trail construction and landscaping work is completed in late fall 2016.

Over 100,000 plugs of salt marsh grasses have been recently planted in Salt Marsh restoration Area D in Rumney Marsh.

Please note that street sweeping has resumed on Winthrop Shore Drive. It occurs every 3rd Thursday of the month. Please remove cars from Shore Drive in advance of street sweeping or else they will be towed.

2016 Good Friends Tournament

The Ninth annual Good Friends Tournament was held at the Country Club of New Hampshire in Sutton, N.H. on July 13, 14, 15. Twenty-two friends from Winthrop most of whom have been friends since grade school played a point quota match. The winners of this years event were Don Milano and Zippy Belcher. Closest to the pin winter were Bob DeGregorio and Rich Boudrea. Putting contest winner was Mike DeGregorio.

Victoria Rotondo of Winthrop freshman at Bishop Fenwick was named to the Principal’s List for the fourth quarter.
