Pancake Breakfast is Sunday
The annual pancake breakfast that raises funds for the Winthrop High School football team named “All You Can Eat Breakfast, “ will be held on Sunday, June 19 from 7 am – Noon at Winthrop High School Cafeteria on Pauline Street. The suggested donation is $7.
Support for all Winthrop residents
St. John the Evangelist Parish has a Saint Vincent de Paul Society Chapter. The mission of the Society is to give temporary support to parishioners and other Winthrop residents who find themselves in need. Please call 617-846-7400 if you or someone you know are in need of assistance.
Street sweep schedule
The Town of Winthrop conducts Street Sweeping operations on the last full week of the month (last week with a Friday) from April through October on the day of a street’s trash collection. If there is a holiday on the week sweeping would normally occur, sweeping is done a week early.
The 2016 street sweeping dates are: June 20-24 July 25-29 August 22-26 September 26-30
Raising Funds for Fireworks
The Winthrop Fireworks Committee is excited to continue the long tradition in Winthrop of bringing families, friends and neighbors together. The Fireworks display would not be possible without our sponsors, donors and supportive residents. One hundred percent of the expenses for the Fireworks display depend on donations. The Winthrop Elks Brings ‘Em Home Committee has started the sale of the annual raffle tickets for a 3 night /4 day stay at Waterville Valley. Raffle tickets are selling for $5 each – some exclusions apply. Proceeds from this raffle will benefit Winthrop Elks Brings ‘Em Home and the Elks Adopt-A-Vet Program.

Strawberry Festival Tuesday
Strawberry Festival will be held Tuesday, June 21 from 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm
Tickets are $6 and must be purchased in advance. They can be purchased at Woodside Hardware, Webster First Federal Union, The Senior Center, The Chamber of Commerce, Brown’s Pharmacy, Winthrop Marketplace, Salon Luxo and Winthrop Public Library.

DCR Beach Project Update for next two weeks
The following activities will be occurring over the next two weeks (June 6 to June 20, 2016).
Winthrop Beach:
– A beach monitoring survey will be continuing through June 8. Expect to see surveyors on the beach and in a boat just off shore.
At Rumney Marsh in Saugus
– Grading work associated with construction of the walking path will be occurring.
– Planting in Area D is scheduled to begin June 7.
– The environmental monitor will observe conditions of the slopes and erosion control devices.
Design for Phase 4 – Winthrop Shore Drive Improvements
– A meeting is planned for June (announcement of the date and venue is pending) when the proposed design for the Winthrop Shore Drive improvements will be presented for public review and comment.
Please note that street sweeping has resumed on Winthrop Shore Drive. It occurs every third Thursday of the month. Please remove cars from Shore Drive in advance of street sweeping or else they will be towed.
