Republican Town Committee takes issue with Democratic Legislature

Dear Editor:

Winthrop Republican Committee Chair released the following statement after our Democrat legislatures voted to kill an amendment to that would have protected all working families from a tax hike.

Mass Debt Grows Again

Few realize that Massachusetts has the highest debt per capita in the nation. Now the democrat controlled legislature is poised to increase our debt yet again. In the process our Democrat Legislatures Fail To Protect All Working Families From New Taxes In the Democrats’ Latest Tax Scheme.

“While our Beacon Hill liberals employed lofty rhetoric during last week’s debate, voters should see Democrats’ latest tax scheme for what it really is: another attempt to raise taxes on every individual at every level to satisfy their party’s unquenchable thirst for more spending. Even after Democrats hiked taxes ten times over eight years, Governor Baker still had to close a $1.8 billion deficit, which he did without raising taxes while boosting support for our schools and communities. Our local legislatutes should realize we can’t tax our way to prosperity.” – Winthrop Republican Committee Chair Paul Caruccio

Memorial Day Comm. says thank you

Dear Editor,

Memorial Weekend Ceremonies are now behind us.  These Ceremonies couldn’t have happened without the support of many – from our Veterans and their families, to those who were there physically and in spirit, to our many volunteers who clean and put flags on our deceased Veterans graves (spearheaded by the Westcott Family for over 25 years), to our great speaker CPT Connor, to our Fire and Police Departments, to our Cub/Boy Scouts, to our singers, our buglers, our politicians, the many people who came out, to CPYC for hosting the Marine Service, the Missile Men who are always performing for us, our Clergy, Pastor May, Rev. Walter and the Episcopal Church for having us part of their Mass on Sunday, and keeping us dry on Monday, our DPW and Cemetery Department for making our property beautiful as always, the Emblem Club Ladies and the Elks who support Veterans every day in many ways, and to the men and women of the American Legion Post 146 for their hard work, and dedication to the Veterans of Winthrop.  We are truly blessed to live in such a Patriotic town!

Peace,

The Winthrop Memorial Day Committee
