Mary Harley

Remained active into her 90’s

Mary V. Harley of Main Street, Winthrop passed away at home on March 15. She was 95 years old (can you keep a secret?).

Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, she was the beloved daughter of the late Louise (Filkovich) and Mike Mesrow. A resident of Plymouth, Pennsylvania for many years, she has only lived in Winthrop for over six months.

She was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and served as a Lieutenant in the Women’s Army Corps during World War II. She worked for many years as a dental hygienist in Nebraska, Colorado and Pennsylvania and was a volunteer with St. Joseph’s Parish in Fallsington, Pennsylvania, To Live Again and the Middlesex Senior Center. She also sang with choral groups into her 90’s.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Thomas Warman and Gray Harley and by her brother, Nicholas Pappas. She was the loving mother of Thomas Warman of South Carolina, Eloise Riley and her husband, John of Winthrop and Brian Warman and his wife, Diane of South Carolina; the cherished grandmother of Lindsay, Stacey, Mary Paige, Thomas, Caitlin, Conor, Christine and Cullan.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend a visitation from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Saturday, March 19 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Interment will take place at a later date in Plymouth, Pennsylvania. Richard ‘Dick’ Granger Kenney

Former Winthrop resident, involved with

Boy Scouts for over 50 years

Richard “Dick” Granger Kenney of Clarkdale, AZ, formerly of Medfield, MA and Winthrop passed away on March 7. He was 87 years old.

Dick was born in Goshen, NY to Frank P. and Frances D. Kenney. He graduated from Winthrop High School, served as a staff sergeant in the US Air Force and was the service manager for the Colonial Service Center in Medfield for many years. Dick was involved with the Boy Scouts for over 50 years. He was a Woodbadge Trained Scout Leader and holder of the Silver Beaver.

He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years, Joan Marie (Silva) and his siblings: Charles “Bill,” Joseph and Pauline. He is survived by his children: Martha Dutra (Lenny) of Fairhaven, MA, Susan (Charles) of Sedona, AZ, Stephen of Westwood, WA, Charles (Laurie) of Westwood, MA and Joanne of Clarkdale. He is also survived by two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will hold private memorial services. Mary Lewis

Of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Mary J. Lewis of Bowdoin Street, Winthrop passed away at the Boston Medical Center on March 13. She was 72 years old.

Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Christina (Cavanaugh) and Patrick Maloney. A resident of Winthrop for over six years, she was a long time resident of East Boston. She worked as a waitress for many years in several Boston Hotels as well as worked at Honey Dew Donuts and the O’Donnell School in East Boston.

She was the loving mother of Lisa Keeney and her husband, Richard of Taunton, Jim Lewis of Winthrop and Melissa Natareno and her husband, Michael of Winthrop; the dear sister of Edward Maloney of Winthrop and Eileen Kennedy of East Boston and the cherished grandmother of Courtney, Ryan, Collin, Christian and Liam. She was also the loving companion of Guido Lavillotti of Medford.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop today, Thursday, March 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Friday, March 18 at 10 a.m. Interment will follow the service in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery. Eunice Crovo

Active bowler and participant at Revere and Winthrop Senior Centers

Eunice E. (Littlehale) Crovo passed away on March 9  surrounded by her loving family. She was 91 years old.

Born in Boston, “Eunie,” wife of the late Augustus “Gus” S. Crovo, Jr., spent most of her life in Revere. During World War II, she worked at New England Confectionary Company (NECCO) which had been converted to support the war effort.

She and Gus were married in 1945 after he was discharged from the U.S. Army following his World War II service and together they raised six children. As her children grew, Eunie was employed for several years by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, working as an administrative assistant at the Industrial Accident Board. After retiring, she and Gus spent 25 years in Ft. Myers, Florida. Eunie returned to Revere in 2010 after Gus’ death. Until her last illness, she was an active bowler and participated in Revere and Winthrop Senior Center activities.

She will be greatly missed by her children and their spouses: Daniel and Diane Crovo of Bradford, MA, Kathleen and Martin Whitmore of Plymouth, MA, Richard and Brenda Crovo of Hooksett, NH; Marianne and Jack Slate of Lynnfied and Christine and Paul Foglia of Revere. She was also the mother of the late Frank Crovo. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, plus many nieces, nephews and friends.

A Funeral Mass will be held in April. Donations may be made in her memory to the New England Center & Home for Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108. If you are inclined, please perform a random act of kindness in remembrance of Eunie—she would love that.
