The excitement on the local political scene is building with the expected official announcement by Winthrop attorney Joseph Boncore at an upcoming campaign reception that he will be a candidate for the State Senate in the district that includes all of Winthrop. Boncore has been highly visible at events in East Boston and Revere and in other parts of the district that extend to sections of Cambridge and Beacon Hill. Boncore has strong support in the town with one of the town’s most prominent Democrats, Donna Segreti Reilly, helping Boncore in his bid for the Senate seat.
The race is certainly creating waves in nearby Revere, where former mayor Dan Rizzo and current councillor-at-large Steve Morabito both announced their candidacies this week, joining Boncore, State Rep. Jay Livingstone, and East Boston residents Lydia Edwards and Diana Hwang in the Democratic primary that is scheduled for April 12.
There have been some endorsements already and one of the most coveted endorsements will be that of Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, who represents Winthrop and Revere in the house and is very propular throughout the district.
State Sen. Anthony Petruccelli was set to make his farewell speech at the State House in Boston today. We thank Sen. Petruccelli for all the great work he did in his position and for always looking out for the best interests of our town. Thank you, Anthony, and good luck in your new endeavor.
