The town held its inauguration ceremonies Monday and there was much excitement and pride as Bob Driscoll took the oath of office as the new president of the Winthrop Town Council. Long-time Winthrop residents are quite familiar with Bob’s father — Bob Driscoll Sr. — and his contributions to the Winthrop Airport Hazards Committee and the Planning Board for so many years.
Bob Jr. himself also has served our town previously, having been a member of the former Board of Selectmen in the late 1990s. The Driscoll family’s legacy of service to this town is admirable.
Bob certainly has big shoes to fill, succeeding Peter Gill in the Town Council President’s chair, who really made such a positive impact on our town as president and effectively unified the Council members to work in collaboration with Town Manager James McKenna.
Bob Driscoll will bring new ideas and a new style of leadership to the town’s highestelected position. As the Council president, he also will serve on the Winthrop School Committee.
We also congratulate attorney Heather Engman, who succeeds Craig Mael as the Precinct 4 Councilor, and Councilors Linda Calla and Phil Boncore, who return to the Council after being elected without opposition in November.
